What is an Endoscopy Center/ ASC?

An endoscopy Center ASC is a facility where procedures or surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients have procedures performed in a full-service procedure room with specialized staff, recover safely and quickly from anesthesia and return home within 1-2 hours.

We understand that your time is important. Efficient and convenient care allows you less wait time and less bureaucracy and offers a patient-friendly environment.

Our ASC has undergone a rigorous accreditation process performed by an independent accrediting agency.

Procedures may also be performed at the Wayne Surgical Center or at the Chilton Hospital Outpatient Endoscopy Center

THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE

Please follow the instructions that you have received care. If you need to take essential medications, you must do so with no more than 1 ounce of water no later than 3 hours before your surgery. There may be some necessary exceptions to these instructions. If so, a nurse or doctor from the Surgery Center will discuss them with you. If you do not follow these guidelines your surgery may be canceled.

PREPARATION THE MORNING OF YOUR SURGERY

  • Do not wear make-up.
  • Wear flat shoes or slippers.
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothes.
  • If you wear contact lenses you may have to remove them prior to surgery, so please bring your glasses.
  • Please bring your Driver’s License or State ID Card, Insurance Cards, Medicare Card or completed insurance form with you.
  • Please leave valuables such as cash and jewelry at home.

AT THE SURGERY CENTER

Please arrive and check in at the reception desk at the appointed time.

Please have the person who is picking you up available by telephone before your procedure.

YOU MUST HAVE SOMEONE WITH YOU TO ACCOMPANY YOU HOME. YOU CAN NOT HAVE A TAXI OR UBER/LYFT SERVICE TAKE YOU HOME WITHOUT AN ACCOMPANYING INDIVIDUAL.

You will be asked to sign a consent form after the staff verifies that you and your doctor have discussed the procedure including the reason for surgery and the risks associated with it.

The staff responsible for your care will verify who you are, what kind of procedure you are having. You will be asked these questions several times. Staff will also double-check what you tell them against the documents provided by your physician. These repetitive confirmations are being done for your safety.

While in the admitting area you must remove any hairpins, jewelry, dentures, contact lenses or glasses. The staff will take care of these items and return them to you after the procedure.

IN THE RECOVERY AREA

After your procedure, you may feel groggy for a short period of time. You may need to expel flatus which is to be expected. You will be given something to drink and should be able to leave the facility within 30 to 45 minutes of the completion of the procedure.

WHEN YOU GO HOME

Follow the instructions given to you by your doctor. Contact your doctor if you have questions.

INSURANCE AND BILLING

As a courtesy to you, the Center will bill your insurance. However, the balance due is the patient’s responsibility.

You will receive separate bills for services rendered from the Endoscopy Center/ ASC; the Physician who performed your procedure; the Anesthesiologist; the Pathology lab and the Pathologist who interprets the pathology specimen slides (if any specimens were obtained).

CENTER OWNERSHIP

Your physician may have a financial interest in the Center. Questions regarding this matter may be directed to the facility administrator.

You have the right to choose your provider and where your procedure is performed. For any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your physician
